Orders for notebook-use chips such as analog ICs, LCD driver ICs, USB controllers and touchscreen controller ICs are expected to rebound in July, according to sources at Taiwan-based IC design houses.
A number of notebook vendors and ODMs have delayed part of their June shipments to July amid slow sales in the end market, and therefore shipments of IC parts are likely to regain momentum in July, said the sources.
Some first-tier analog IC suppliers revealed that they have received more pull-in orders from notebook vendors for their new models, including ultrabooks, to be released in the third quarter.
LCD driver IC vendors also indicated that orders for notebook- and monitor-use driver ICs have begun to rise recently following dismal demand in the first half of 2013.
