Novatek Microelectronics is expected to see its consolidated revenues increase 15-20% sequentially in the second quarter of 2014, buoyed by orders for LCD driver ICs used in smartphones and Ultra HD TVs as well as for TV SoCs, according to industry sources.

Novatek will be able to ramp up its shipments of drivers ICs for Ultra HD TVs in the second quarter although Taiwan-based panel makers are seeing a slight slowdown in shipments to the Ultra HD TV segment due to competition from Korea rivals, the sources noted.

Combined shipments of small-size LCD driver ICs by Taiwan-based IC design houses are expected to grow over 15% sequentially in the second quarter due to booming sales of smartphones in China in the quarter, therefore boosting shipments at Novatek, added the sources.

Novatek’s focus on LCD driver ICs supporting HD720 and above panels will also benefit from growing demand for high definition displays, said the sources.
