Despite the first quarter being the traditional slow season, Taiwan-based metal chassis maker Catcher Technology is expected to see its revenues drop only 6% sequentially thanks to orders from Apple, while Uneec is also expected to achieve revenues of NT$900 million (US$28.59 million) with orders from China-based smartphone vendors, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Catcher achieved consolidated revenues of NT$17.01 billion for the fourth quarter of 2014, up 17% from the previous quarter and strong orders for smartphone chassis are expected to allow the supplier to continue enjoying growths in 2015.
Uneec is seeing increasing demand for its chassis produced using its nano molding and injection molding technologies. The company’s chassis made using a combination of the nano molding and metal stamping processes have received orders from China-based Huawei and Oppo for their smartphones for 2015, the sources noted.
Uneec declined to comment on the orders, but said that it has received frequent inquiries about the technology.
Uneec has also seen significant demand for its injection molding chassis from wearable device vendors and has already received orders for a smartwatch’s metal back cover, the sources said.
The company is planning to expand its capacity at the end of the first quarter in order to satisfy growing demand, the sources added.
